At the End of the Day
When all is said and done what is it that you want to accomplish with your business? Hopefully you already have an “exit strategy” in place that will take care of how you hope to dispose of the business. However, there is an opportunity to consider so much more when you look at what you want to accomplish.
For example, do you want your business to have an impact on your community. Every community has needs that private industry can meet. Local non-profits look for corporate or business support every day. Business owners can use the success of their business to help fill volunteer needs, leadership roles as well as financial support. Building community impact into your business model can bring you as an owner a real sense of accomplishment.
Another idea is to build a family-friendly business. This is a good idea as a part of any workforce development plan. However, you can go a step further and provide extra benefits and create a workplace that puts the needs of your employee’s families near the top of the list. Emergency leave, education scholarships for employee’s children, hiring employee’s family members first and the list goes on and on. Again, an opportunity to use your business to accomplish more than generating monetary wealth.
There are many opportunities and choices you can make in developing a sense of non-monetary accomplishment with your business. Your choice(s) should necessarily meet your personal goals and needs. The passion you bring to this effort is critical to its success. When an employee says, “I work for ABC and they really take care of us just like family and that makes me excited about going to work every day; knowing they have my back.”, you know you have accomplished something.
